Why are teeth discoloured?
Lifestyle behaviours such as smoking, coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, lack of brushing/flossing,
certain drugs, excessive fluoride, dental problems, tooth decay, trauma, thin enamel and tartar may alllead to the discoloration of your teeth.
However there are also many other factors that could be causing discoloration such as medications, diseases, aging, genetics, environment etc.
Am I eligible for whitening?
Tooth whitening is the use of a bleaching agent to whiten the colour of your teeth. Not everyone is suitable for tooth whitening however your dentist will help determine whether whitening is suitable procedure for you.
How does ZOOM Whitening work?
Sherwood Smiles provides a whitening service using Philips Zoom. With Zoom in-office whitening, your teeth could be up to 8 shades whiter (depending on your current teeth's condition) in one sitting.
During the procedure, the dentist prepares your mouth, applies a layer of advanced whitening gel then applies a blue LED lamp onto the teeth to speed up the whitening process. This is repeated three times and is completed in 45 minutes (depending on your teeth's condition). Once you've reached your desired shade, the dentist will apply post-treatment gel to help reduce sensitivity and protect enamel.
We also offer take-home whitening. Philips Zoom take-home teeth whitening kits are a safe and convenient way to get your smile noticeably whiter in one to two weeks. You’ll get professional, affordable results with little to no sensitivity.
Please talk to one of our friendly staff for further information.
Some patients experience sensitivity such as “zingers” or thermal sensitivity 12 to 24 hours after Zoom whitening and during at home whitening. Here are things you can do to help relieve this sensitivity:
Place sensitive toothpaste provided by the dentist on the problem area
Take over the counter pain relievers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Drink plenty of water (room temperature).
After ZOOM whitening, the teeth are more susceptible to staining therefore dark foods (red wine, red meat, berries, coffee and tea) should be avoided for up to 48 hours after treatment.
Our friendly dentist will provide you with all necessary information before/during the treatment however if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call!
For a limited time only, we offer in-chair professional teeth whitening for $495.
