Root Canal

Therapy

What is Root Canal Therapy?

Healthy teeth have blood vessels and nerves found in the root (the pulp)  of each tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Most root canal treatments only require two visits however it depends on the extent of the infection and your current oral health condition.

At Sherwood Smiles we like to save the teeth as much as possible and this treatment is a great option to avoid an extraction.

Treatments such as crowns may be required after root canal therapy and can be discussed with your friendly dentist to see what is best suited for you. A treated tooth can last just as long as your healthy teeth provided you maintain a excellent oral hygiene routine!
